2012 Prophecy – The End of the World – Three Years Left

Posted on 21st December 2009 by in 2012 - Tags: , , , , ,

The 2012 Mayan Calendar Prophecy depicts an end to the world, as we know it. There are only three years left. Is there any truth to it? Is it just another Y2K media blast filled with fear and foreboding?

You know as I do that what happens three years from now is still up in the air. Scientists and scholars do not agree on the translation of the Mayan codex that refers to December 21, 2012, let alone its meaning.

The meaning of the 2012 calendar is left to new age philosophers, modern day doomsday soothsayers, publicists, and moviemakers. Did you see the movie 2012? That was one heck of a ride.

What does the calendar say? Literally, the Mayan calendar ends on that date. The Mayan Long Calendar cycle ends. But, does that imply the end of all time? Our calendar ends on December 31, at midnight. It does not mean that time has ended.

We all know or at least we expect a new dawn when we arise. Did the Mayan intend anything different? You be the judge.

The words in the codex refer to a Mayan god, Bolon Yookte’ K’uh. This god is a god of war, conflict, and the underworld.

In 1966, Michael D. Coe, famed archaeologist and anthropologist, wrote in his book, The Maya, that on that date Bolon Yookte’ K’uh will rise up and vanquish the degenerate of the world.

The end of the world enthusiasts use that interpretation along with forecasted high solar activity, alignment of the Sun with the center of the galaxy, and references to the end of days by other cultures and civilizations as the basis for their beliefs.  Could the Second Coming and Armageddon be near?

Did you know that even the interpretation of the date in the text varies? The date December 21, 2012 is not the only date interpreted by scholars. Some think the date should be December 23, 2012.

The difference in dates is due to which calendar is used to work backwards, Gregorian or Julian. The problem is that there is a leap year between year one BC and year one AD. It is a little more complicated, but that is the simple explanation.

You probably have an opinion about December 21, 2012. Many of us do. However, it raises the question as to why so many are concerned about this date. Is it an innate global consciousness? Is it Hollywood publicity?

It comes down to your own system of beliefs and fears. We have three years left before we will know for sure. I, for one, want to learn all that I can both fact and conjecture, just in case. Maybe you should too.

Decide for yourself. Is 2012 the end of the world? Prepare for the possibilities. Why not be prepared and arm yourself with knowledge?

2012 – The End of The World – Two Schools of Thought

The Mayan calendar prophecy predicts the end of the world as we know it. On December 21, 2012, an Earth changing event will take place. Those that believe in this prophecy fall into two camps.

There are those that believe that the end of the world is a catastrophic physical event. There are those that believe the world will continue on, but there will be a change in our consciousness.

Worldwide Catastrophe

The believers of worldwide catastrophe predict several scenarios here are three:

  • A mysterious Planet X will pass close to the earth and create havoc with the earth’s crust destroying most of the living creatures.
  • On that date, our Sun will align itself with the center of the galaxy. That alignment will generate unknown forces that will affect the earth’s magnetic field, destroying life.
  • Unusually high solar flare activity is forecast for that time frame. That solar activity could substantially affect the earth’s magnetic shield and fundamentally have a dramatic effect on life.

Most scientists find these scenarios to be untenable, that is, not provable or valid. Bob Berman a columnist at Astronomy magazine wrote, “…the fun begins, as people come up with exquisitely moronic astrobabble in an attempt to find something celestial that might happen…”

There are some scientists that do not go so far as to entirely discount the Mayan end of the world prophecy. Dr. Bartels, a noted anthropologist and astronomer, claims there may be more to this prediction than has been acknowledged by science and the media.

New Age Consciousness

There are those end-of-world believers that see this prediction not as a physical event, but as a rebirth, an awakening. They have a different view of the causes for this new consciousness.

  • The Sun’s alignment with the center of the galaxy will emit energy fields that envelope the Earth exposing mankind to an awakening of his true self.
  • Ancient religions and civilizations have for eons foretold of man’s coming to a new age.
  • During this period we are entering the Age of Aquarius, the astrological age of enlightenment.

Undoubtedly, much is unknown to man. Although we attempt to discover and uncover Nature’s truths through the discipline of science, Man must continue to cope with the unexplained and the mysterious.

With all of our technology and science, we still cannot explain the mystery of life. The Mayan 2012 prophecy and all its offshoots are one of those mysteries.

This short article pays little justice to the pros and cons of this fascinating subject.

2012 – The End of the World – Are You Prepared?

Posted on 14th December 2009 by in 2012

You may have heard about 2012 and the end of the world. You may already know something about it. But, are you prepared? Regardless of your belief in this doomsday prophecy, shouldn’t you be prepared for any calamity you may encounter?

I saw the movie, 2012, and if this is what is in store for us, then you might as well kiss your tutu goodbye, if you have one. Personally, I cannot commit to a hardcore belief in this prophecy.

On the other hand, there is that lingering question, “What if it is true?” I cannot deny a feeling of uneasiness about the prediction. After all, the advocates of this event do make a case.

Some advocates see this event as cataclysmic. Others see it as a cleansing or a renewal. They do agree that something earth changing is imminent. What do we know?

We do know this:

  • The Mayan Long calendar ends on December 21, 2012, the winter solstice.
  • Many religions and past civilizations have predicted the end of the world around this period.
  • Every 26,000 years or so our Sun aligns itself with the center of the Milky Way, 2012 is that year.
  • Around this date, scientists forecast unusually high solar activity with potential negative consequences to the Earth.
  • Other well-known seers and prophets, like Edgar Cayce and Nostradamus, predict something is going to happen in this time.

Those that defend their belief in this prophecy refer to the poles shifting, worldwide climatic changes, other environmental changes, and a mysterious Planet X as evidence to support their belief. Their evidence is supported by both science and pseudo-science.

Read these reviews of 2012 literature.

Whatever your inclination might be, it has made us all aware of Nature’s unpredictability. Hurricane Katrina is a perfect example. How many people were prepared? Very few. Are you ready for whatever calamity may come your way?

You can prepare yourself in many ways. Knowledge is the first order of preparedness. Know what might be possible and act according to your own knowingness. Learning about December 21, 2012 is no different.

Decide for yourself. Is 2012 the end of the world? Prepare for the possibilities. Why not be prepared and arm yourself with knowledge?

The Mayan Calendar Prophecy – 2012 – A Hoax Or Reality?

Posted on 14th December 2009 by in 2012

You probably already know this. There is a lot of talk about the world ending on December 21, 2012. Pop culture has focused on the Mayan Calendar. It ends on December 21, 2012. Why do so many embrace that day as the end of the world? Is it mass humankind intuitiveness, a subconscious knowingness? Is it clever marketing? More bluntly, is the Mayan calendar prophesy, a hoax or reality?

Mayan Calendars

Did you know there were many Mayan calendars? The Mayans were an agrarian people. Their world revolved around the seasons and the celestial bodies that governed those seasons. They had a solar calendar and a lunar calendar. They had a calendar that recorded the heavenly journey of Venus and various other calendars associated with their many gods.

Why did the Mayans prophesy the end of the world? Maybe they did not. No one can say that the Mayans intentionally made any such prophesy. Maybe their intention was simply to create calendars, calendars to mark and record their history and to meet their agricultural needs.

Three Calendars

The three most publicized Mayan calendars were the Tzolkin, the Haab, and the Long Calendar. By some calculations, the Mayan calendar is said to be more accurate than our modern day Gregorian calendar!

The Tzolkin calendar was the sacred or ceremonial calendar. It consisted of 13 numbered days and 20 names. It recorded a 260-day cycle.

The Haab calendar was the solar calendar. It consists of 18 months of 20 days each plus one month of 5 “nameless” days added to the cycle. It is a 365-day calendar. The Tzolkin and Haab combine to create the Calendar Round, which depicts a 52-year cycle.

The Long Calendar was a linear calendar. That is to say a calendar to count years. It was a linear calendar much like our modern day Gregorian and Julian calendars. The Mayans used it to go forward and backward in time. It is still in use today in some modern day Mayan villages. The Long Calendar spans a period of approximately 5125 years.

The End and the Mystery

I am sure that you are well aware that all calendars end at some point. Our Gregorian calendars end every year at midnight on December 31st and start over again the following day. Our calendars record a 365-day cycle. We have a 10-year cycle we call a decade, a one hundred year cycle that we call a century.

The Mayans did the same thing. The Long Calendar ends on December 21, 2012 and a new cycle begins. What makes this particular date so mysterious and foreboding? It is interesting and worth noting that there are a few things that coincide with this particular date.

  • The Hindus prophesy the end of the world, as we know it, and the beginning of a new world at about the same time.
  • St. Malachy, the prophet, foretold the last Roman Catholic pope to be of the Benedictine Order. The current pope is Benedict XVI.
  • One I Ching scholar has correlated that teaching to show an ending of our world around the same date.
  • Scientists identify that year as a year of intense solar activity that could have dire consequences for our world.
  • On that day our sun, the earth, and the center of the Milky Way, our galaxy, will be in alignment.
  • December 21, 2012 is the winter solstice.
  • Mayan scholars have translated inscriptions that imply the end. Some scholars interpret the inscriptions to mean the end of the world

Do these facts imply the end of the world? Only you can make that judgment. This short article does little justice to the subject. You owe it to yourself to become informed. Regardless of the prophesy’s validity, one should always keep an open mind and be prepared for any calamity.

Decide for yourself. Is the Mayan calendar prophesy a hoax or reality? Prepare for the possibilities. Why not be prepared and arm yourself with knowledge?

What Will Happen in 2012?

Posted on 6th December 2009 by in 2012

What will happen in 2012? There are many predictions that beg to answer that question. Primary among them is earth devastating solar activity. The movie 2012 focuses on that factor. This article focuses on the predicted solar storm.

I am sure that you are aware of all the publicity given to the movie 2012. Have you seen the movie? I saw it. The movie was certainly a cinematography extravaganza. Just watching the special effects was worth the price of entry. It painted a dim and catastrophic picture of what will happen in 2012. But, then that was pure fiction, a movie.

The movie, 2012, used the Sun’s activity to imply some sort of neutrino emission that melts the earth’s core. Philip Yam in Scientific American’s Observations column takes a dim view of any such neutrino behavior, “Particles that can heat up the solid iron inner core by thousands of degrees should have cooked Earth’s surface dry before Woody Harrelson gets the chance to steal all the scenes he’s in.”

And yet, as early as 2006, Dr. M. Dikpati of the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) predicted that, “The next sunspot cycle will be 30% to 50% stronger than the previous one.” Dr. Dikpati forecasts a Solar Max will occur in 2012. Can that cause an EMP (electromagnetic pulse) powerful enough to wipe out our communications?

Are you concerned that the Mayan calendar prophecy is valid? Are you concerned that there may be some truth to the prediction that on December 21, 2012, the winter solstice, something earth changing will occur?

Imagine our world bombarded by electromagnetic impulses so powerful that they disrupt all of our communications. Imagine not able to use your cell phone or not able to start your electronic ignition car. Is that something you should be worried about?

Do you remember the Northeast blackout of 2003 affecting an estimated 55 million people? That was officially declared to have been caused by a series of unfortunate events.

Six weeks later a similar event happened in Italy. 56 million people were affected by that blackout. Government officials claim another series of unfortunate events caused that blackout.

Solar activity reached a new high later that year.

Can Solar Max storms cause similar catastrophic events? Like those coming in 2012? According to the prestigious IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), due to their much longer duration, solar storm geomagnetically induced currents (EMP) effects on the power system are greater than the effects caused by nuclear detonation!

So, what will happen in 2012? At this point, I don’t think any mainstream scientist wants to step outside their box and make any catastrophic predictions. Yet, there is evidence that something can happen in 2012. Is it a form of denial? Not to mention the plethora of other predictions made students of the Mayan Prophecy. What do you think?

Wouldn’t it be prudent to learn all you can about this intriguing subject? After all, regardless of whether the predictions will come true or not it may be wise to be prepared for any natural catastrophes.

2012 – The End of the World and The Science of it All

Posted on 4th December 2009 by in 2012 - Tags: , , , , , ,

Did you see the movie, 2012? There was probably more science in that movie than in all the words written about 2012, the end of the world. Why can I say that? Think of the technology that went into creating the special effects of that movie. I swear it looked like real life photography.

I saw people falling into mile deep crevices, skyscrapers collapsing, and an angry sea devouring the coastline with its mile high tsunami. Not knowing any better, I could have believed that a National Geographic camera operator was recording the devastation. That is good cinematography.

I suspect that the director, Roland Emmerich, got the idea from the prophecy of the Mayan Long Calendar prediction. Do you know how many times the Mayan prophecy was mentioned in the movie? Once.

I can only guess that the prophecy was not mentioned more often because there is not much scientific information to back up the claims of the cataclysmic soothsayers.

Here is what science we do know about the Mayan prediction.

  • The Mayan were great astronomers and mathematicians.
  • The Mayan recorded the paths of celestial bodies.
  • They recorded time in cycles. One of those cycles ends on December 21, 2012. A new one begins.
  • Associated with the codex that identifies that date, a reference is made to one of their gods, Bolon Yookte’ K’uh. This god is a god of war, conflict, and the underworld.
  • The translation of the codex refers to blackness and the descent of the god, Bolon Yookte’ K’uh.

That is it. Everything else is conjecture and, well, prophecy. Much has been inferred from a simple archaeological discovery.

Before we get to arrogant in our criticism of cataclysmic soothsayers and our quest for indisputable truth, we should recognize that even scientists dispute the translation of that codex. As early as 1966, Michael D. Coe, famed archaeologist and anthropologist, wrote in his book, The Maya:

there is a suggestion… that Armageddon would overtake the degenerate peoples of the world and all creation on the final day of the thirteenth [b'ak'tun]. Thus… our present universe [would] be annihilated on December 24, AD 2011, [later revised to December 23, 2012] when the Great Cycle of the Long Count reaches completion.” [Wikipedia].

It comes down to your own system of beliefs and fears. I, for one, want to learn all that I can both fact and conjecture, just in case. Maybe you should too.

Decide for yourself. Is 2012 the end of the world? Prepare for the possibilities. Why not be prepared and arm yourself with knowledge?
