2012 Prophecy – The End of the World – Three Years Left

The 2012 Mayan Calendar Prophecy depicts an end to the world, as we know it. There are only three years left. Is there any truth to it? Is it just another Y2K media blast filled with fear and foreboding?

You know as I do that what happens three years from now is still up in the air. Scientists and scholars do not agree on the translation of the Mayan codex that refers to December 21, 2012, let alone its meaning.

The meaning of the 2012 calendar is left to new age philosophers, modern day doomsday soothsayers, publicists, and moviemakers. Did you see the movie 2012? That was one heck of a ride.

What does the calendar say? Literally, the Mayan calendar ends on that date. The Mayan Long Calendar cycle ends. But, does that imply the end of all time? Our calendar ends on December 31, at midnight. It does not mean that time has ended.

We all know or at least we expect a new dawn when we arise. Did the Mayan intend anything different? You be the judge.

The words in the codex refer to a Mayan god, Bolon Yookte’ K’uh. This god is a god of war, conflict, and the underworld.

In 1966, Michael D. Coe, famed archaeologist and anthropologist, wrote in his book, The Maya, that on that date Bolon Yookte’ K’uh will rise up and vanquish the degenerate of the world.

The end of the world enthusiasts use that interpretation along with forecasted high solar activity, alignment of the Sun with the center of the galaxy, and references to the end of days by other cultures and civilizations as the basis for their beliefs.  Could the Second Coming and Armageddon be near?

Did you know that even the interpretation of the date in the text varies? The date December 21, 2012 is not the only date interpreted by scholars. Some think the date should be December 23, 2012.

The difference in dates is due to which calendar is used to work backwards, Gregorian or Julian. The problem is that there is a leap year between year one BC and year one AD. It is a little more complicated, but that is the simple explanation.

You probably have an opinion about December 21, 2012. Many of us do. However, it raises the question as to why so many are concerned about this date. Is it an innate global consciousness? Is it Hollywood publicity?

It comes down to your own system of beliefs and fears. We have three years left before we will know for sure. I, for one, want to learn all that I can both fact and conjecture, just in case. Maybe you should too.

Decide for yourself. Is 2012 the end of the world? Prepare for the possibilities. Why not be prepared and arm yourself with knowledge?
